One great way to get good at holdem poker fast is to read the right books. We live in a golden age where there are a plethora of great books to help improve your game. It does not matter if you play Internet poker or live in your local poker room. Here are a few books that should be in every Texas holdem player's library.

Super/System by Doyle Brunson
Indispensable for any poker player is Doyle Brunson's seminal work, Super/System. While of course this volume contains the musings of Doyle himself on the game of no limit holdem, observations and teachings that revolutionized the game of poker, the book also contains crucial information on the game of limit holdem, as taught by poker legend and former world champion Bobby Baldwin.

Super/System 2 by Doyle Brunson
Decades after the publication of the original volume, this one picks up where the first one left off. There is a comprehensive section on limit holdem by Jennifer Harman, one of the best cash game poker players on the tour today. Jennifer tells you everything you need to know to succeed at limit holdem. As you might expect, there's more on no limit holdem by Doyle too, including comments on how the game has changed since the first book came out, and a new section on tournament poker play.

Holdem Poker For Advanced Players by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth
Considered two of the most accomplished and prolific poker authors and theorists, Sklansky and Malmuth expand on previous works to tackle holdem in depth. This book tells you all about how to handle starting hands, which ones you should play and when, helps you master strategic concepts, and instructs you on how to handle loose vs. tight games. If you're planning to be a holdem expert, you need to read this book.

Harrington on Holdem Vol I-III by Dan Harrington
This series by former World Champion and three time WSOP main event final table contender Dan Harrington has become an instant classic. These books are designed for tournament play and already considered required reading for anyone who wants to be a successful tournament player. The first volume goes into great detail on proper strategy for surviving a tournament, including how to calculate the level of aggressiveness you need to move ahead. The second volume brings you through the final table and the win, using brilliantly illustrated examples and problems to help you work through the strategy on your own. The final volume is a workbook, providing problems to cover nearly any tournament eventuality, so you can learn in simulated game situation.

These are only a few of the great books on holdem, but they should keep you busy for awhile. Read these books, more than once, and watch your results improve.
